When Katy Perry’s hit song “ROAR” comes on the radio, I revert back to a pop-crazed 16-year-old girl. The volume level goes up … windows roll down … and embarrassing singing and dancing ensues. Beyond its catchy tune, I’m drawn to this song because of its empowering message.
I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter, dancing through the fire
Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me roar
Inspiration can come in many forms, some more obvious than others. I recently had the opportunity to attend Orlando’s ATHENA International Women’s Leadership Luncheon. Inspirational women and fellow leaders at varying levels of their career gathered to engage, encourage leadership and celebrate sisterhood – in business and in general. Having never been to this event, I expected a cheerleading session, but left with much more. Through this forum of collaboration, I gained a fresh perspective, some new business ideas and motivation to take my career by the horns and make it what I want it to be. ATHENA’s eight guiding principles of leadership are relevant to everyone looking to make a big impact:
And don’t forget to ROAR!
Besides getting this song stuck in your head, I challenge you to apply one of these principles to your work today and see the difference it can make.
